About us

TimberStone Ltd, design and build from concept to handover

We design and build houses around Nanyuki and across the Mount Kenya region, from the first drawing through county approval to the day you get the keys. We also run our own kiln and joinery workshop, so the doors, ceilings, floors and fitted units in your house are made by us.

A joinery workshop that grew into a construction company

We began with timber, drying it properly in our own kiln and milling doors, frames and fittings in our own workshop. Clients kept asking whether we could handle the rest of the house, and the answer kept being yes: first the fit-out, then the structure, then the drawings and approvals that come before either.

Today we take a project from the first conversation on a bare plot through to the day we hand over the keys. Concept and feasibility, architectural drawings, structural engineering, county approval, stone and concrete construction, and every timber element inside the finished house.

We work out of Nanyuki, which shapes how we build. At two thousand metres the nights are cold and the sun is hard, most plots have no mains water and many have no power at the boundary, and the ground can change from good murram to black cotton inside one plot. A house designed for Nairobi and dropped on a Laikipia plot does not work, and we have seen enough of them to be certain about that.

The workshop never went away, and it is still what sets us apart. Almost every contractor in Kenya subcontracts joinery to someone else. We make ours, which means that when a door needs to close properly two dry seasons from now, the person responsible is us.

How we work

Four things we hold ourselves to

One firm, one responsibility

Design, engineering and construction under one roof. When something needs solving on site, there is nobody to blame and nobody to wait for. We simply fix it.

The price we quote is the price you pay

Our contract sums are fixed and itemised against an agreed drawing. If you change what you asked for, or the ground turns out to be different from what anyone could see, you hear about it before any money is spent, never as a surprise at the end.

Do the slow steps properly

Drying timber, curing concrete, compacting hardcore. These are the steps that cost time and get skipped, and they are exactly the ones that decide whether a house is still sound in twenty years.

Say no when we should

If a plot will not carry what you want, if a budget will not stretch to the finish you are describing, or if a job is outside what we do well, we will tell you. It costs us a sale and saves you a great deal more.
